We Are One Youth Summit in Service
Sandy's Summer Camp...
Queen Jr. High...
Legacy...
Mission Statement:
It takes a village to raise a child. True Love Movement concentrates on this African proverb. Youth are our future, so as we focus on the Black woman, our children need special guidance and Love as they deal with pressures of this society. True Love Movement reinvents the adage…It takes a healthy village to raise a healthy child.
True Love Movement partnered with Project Future for the Youth for the first semi annual youth summit. Youth's from all over the New Orleans area came together to do community service, learn and teach.

On Friday, the youth painted a beautiful mural led by the outstanding New Orleans artist Jessica Strahan. The mural is located in the Desire community's Sampson Park on 3100 Louisa St. in the 9th ward. Drive by and check out the positive and creative work the youth did!
On Saturday, youths from John Mac High School, True Love Movement and American Friends Service Committee led relevant workshops on subjects such as "Youth and Relationships", "The Prison and Military Industrial Complex" and "Youth and Community Activism". The Summit was successful and fruitful. The Youth are continuing to develop ideas and goals generated from the Summit. The next Summit is scheduled to be October 21st-23rd and we will tackle issues such as Domestic Violence, Police Brutality and Health and Wellness. For more information on the Youth Summit, how to get a youth (ages 13-18) involved or to donate, contact Tuere Jones (Project Future for the Youth) at tuere@projectfuturefortheyouth.org
Sandy's Summer Camp began in New Orleans, Louisiana the summer of 2005. Before Hurricane Katrina, Sandy's Summer Camp spent the summer enjoying feild trips, arts and crafts, water play and enrichment in math and reading. Every summer since Katrina, Sandy's has grown and has included children from New Orleans, and children that had been displaced to other cities around the country ( Little Rock, Atlanta, Slidell ). Now based in Montgomery, Alabama Sandy's provides so much of the children's needs to experience fun and enrichment for the summer.

Summer is no time to be idle. "Idle time is the devil's workshop!" Sandra Frederick used to say. She is the inspiration and name sake for Sandy's Summer Camp. As a teacher in the New Orleans Public Schools, Sandy had the summer's off to relax and regroup for the new school year. Instead of allowing her own children to lay around and watch television all summer, she planned fun and educating activities to keep her children happy and learning throughout the summer. Along with her own children, Sandy included her neices and nephews and kept them while their parents worked.
She planned out door activities like camping and swimming, science projects like collecting and identifying bugs, trips to the local library and promoted dramatic play. Each child went back to school ready for the new school year with new skills they had learned during the summer and fullfilled from all of the fun.
As her daughter and one of her campers, Ayanna Molina has taken Sandy's vision and carried on the tradition of fun and enrichment for children during the summer!
Message from Ayanna Molina, Sandy's Summer Camp Director:
We tried something new at Sandy's Summer Camp. Instead of focusing on fun times and academics, we decided to create a song, practice it and record it! Since there were more girls than boys this summer, we created a girl group. We named it " Queen Jr. High" since they are all "queens in training." The girls jumped right in and enjoyed singing a positive, uplifting song for young girls. We even featured one boy camper, Kamau at the end to give the girls their propers! This was a fun and educational project. The girls learned about teamwork and cooperation, the benefit of positive vibes and positive lyrics! I hope you all enjoy! Please play it for as many young girls as you can. Spread the LOVE...to listen to Extraordinary click here!
