A word from Ayanna AKA Fiyah:
I'm not your average "emcee". Especially in this day in hip hop, I am definitely not average. I am a grown woman with children, a lifelong companion (husband), and I'm a self-published author and counselor in training. Why Hip Hop?
I am clear that hip hop is the necessary tool to reach the masses of young people who are hypnotized by media. Why Hip Hop? Because it's one of the only ways to reach them, to help them heal and to truly change things. As a teacher I am in contact with many young people of different ages. From 6 on up they can spit Ludacris' lyrics or a T-Pain hit in an instant. They may not truly comprehend exactly what they are repeating, but we must know that subconsciously our children are learning. Do we really understand how powerful that is? Our children are struggling in a school system that does not cater to their learning needs. It is obvious that our children learn by rhyme and rhythm. They have trouble learning history dates and facts, math facts or spelling and vocabulary, but they can word for word a Lil Wayne rhyme.
I take my skills as a poet, teacher, artist and hip hop lover and be the change Hip Hop needs. I got the drive, the talent and God's blessing. Now that I have answered the question "Why?"...now "How?"
It is my pleasure to introduce MC Fiyah. I'm bringing back the fearless female emcee. Instead of rhyming about sex, money, cars and violence, I'm on the other side rapping about the upliftment of women, the sacredness of children, and the empowerment of the community, our race and all people. Hip Hop is a tool. For people who want to talk the talk...here's a way to walk the walk. Join the True Love Movement. Support MC Fiyah. Support positive Hip Hop and use hip hop as a tool to uplift, not down press.
